Jessica Wambach joined COE’s Pacific Disaster Management Information Network as an information research analyst in September 2007. Jessica works with the rest of the PDMIN team in writing, editing and distributing information products concerning natural disasters, humanitarian crises and geopolitical conflicts across the Asia-Pacific region. Most of her time is spent on the Asia-Pacific Daily Report, usually focusing on India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand, Myanmar (Burma) and the Philippines.
A Montana native, she graduated with a BA in print journalism and history from the University of Montana in 2005 and is currently earning her MA in diplomacy and military studies at Hawai’i Pacific University. She speaks Spanish and is slowly learning Mandarin.
Before joining COE, Jessica worked as a reporter and editor for several newspapers in Washington, Virginia and Montana, most recently covering health and social issues at the Yakima Herald-Republic in Yakima, Washington. She is a 2005 co-recipient of the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award as part of a team reporting on American Indians’ struggle for sovereignty in Montana.
When not at work or school, she prefers to be kayaking or otherwise spending as much time in Hawaii’s waters as possible.
